It has been ages since I sat down to do my blog and such a lot has happened, why is it that I am spurred on to write on the blog when someone dies, namely Michael Jackson. It saddens me that he has gone but could you see an old Michael Jackson bit like Elvis Presley could you see him as an old man. Steve my husband pointed this out to me and to be honest I couldn't, so lets remember Michael as he was a very creative talented person who's music I enjoyed.
Steve turned 60 on the 21st June and instead of having a big birthday bash the two of us went off to Victoria Falls Zimbabwe for 4 days and had a great time. Beautiful country, beautiful friendly people, pity about their leader. It is a place I would love to go back to.

Rose Baker Teacher

I was deeply saddened this weekend to hear that Rose Baker a Pre-primary school teacher from Edgemead passed away at the age of 52.
Rose came into contact with hundreds of children and parents in our suburb of Edgemead. And although she retired from her job more than 10 years ago and moved to Moreesburg to open up a guest house, she still kept in contact with several parents and had a wonderful memory for remembering her children's names over many years.
She had a wonderful understanding of Michael and always went out of her way to ask about Michael and his progress. Michael as I mentioned earlier is mentally challenged, but went to pre-primary school like all the other kids, until we could get his condition diagnosed, which only happened when he had to start school proper, and then the diagnosis was Global Retardation, can anyone tell me what it really is and how it came to be? I think we will leave that subject for another time.
Rose, bless you thanks for everything and may you rest in peace.

As I have mentioned before I live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world Cape Town and what makes Cape Town so special is our mountain, simply named Table Mountain.

In the old days when the Union Castle shipping line used to sail between Cape Town and Southampton there was nothing more beautiful than sailing into Cape Town in the early morning and seeing Table Mountain silhouetted against the dawn sky. It brought tears to your eyes especially if you had been away for any length of time, it meant you were "home".

Last night I got up and as is my way I looked outside and in the distance I could see an orange glow, our Table Mountain was on fire. Now that it is daylight you cannot see the flames but the fire rages on high up the mountain.

I feel very sorry for the wild life that lives on the mountain and especially the tortoises who are too slow to escape the flames, but who knows some could have been asleep under the overhang of a rock. I had a tortoise once called "Flame" and his shell was completely burnt and the rest of him, legs, head etc was fine. Flame was stolen by workmen we had working in our back garden.

One must also spare a thought for our Fire Fighters who have been working through the night and have had a very busy Summer this year, putting out huge fires through the Peninsula.

They say that the odd fire is good for the local "fynbos" as it promotes new growth. By this time next year all will be back to normal and Table Mountain will be its majestic self. After all it has been there forever

I Did It

Oh boy I did it, please do not ask me how, even if Mango and Bubbles did come first, that is not necessary the order of importance in the family, although there are some days when they are top of the heap. What a relief, I have pressed so many buttons, I was wondering if the the computer would send me some sort of rude message
I have spent the last two days trying to get pictures onto my blog, I just wish I was more computer literate, I have managed to download the pictures but now I seem to have a problem getting it published, I do not want to ask the family for help as this is my personal thing that I would like to do on my own, but I guess I will be asking Kimberley for some help when she gets back from college
